The image on the left is artwork created by a first grade student.  This was the activity following the reading of Seegwan and Peboan, a Native American story about the seasons.  Before reading the story, the class brainstormed about how the seasons are different.
This is the list the first graders generated upon listening to the "Native American Sounds of Nature" song.  We listened to the song twice, so that we could hear new sounds and confirm the ones that we had already listed.  The list on the right, titled "Sounds We Hear in Nature" was compiled when the lesson began (prior knowledge).  The list on the left, titled "Listen to the song on the CD.  What do you hear?"  is the list from when the students listened to the CD and were allowed to call out descriptive phrases.
